Kharkiv awaiting special guests at Euro 2012 - Queen of the Netherlands, German chancellor

Queen Beatrix Wilhelmina Armgard of the Netherlands is scheduled to visit a match of the Netherlands national football team, which will take place in Kharkiv in June during the Euro 2012 European Football Championship finals, Director of the Department for Euro 2012 Preparation at Kharkiv City Council Oleksandr Nechyporenko has said.

"The negotiations concerning the arrival of the queen are underway. Her representatives will come on January 23 to look for a residence. Queen of the Netherlands is willing to attend all three matches of the national team," Nechyporenko said at a press conference in Kharkiv.

2011: five records of Euro-2012

Quite a few new records were set in 2011 in UEFA events as regards Euro-2012. The main ones were named by Local Organizing Committee chief Markiyan Lubkivskyi in an interview with the Information Centre Ukraine-2012.

Ukraine commissions 2,000 km of roads in 2011

Ukraine in 2011 commissioned 2,000 kilometers of roads, the head of the State Agency for Automobile Roads, Volodymyr Demishkan, has said.

"This year Ukraine has commissioned 2,000 kilometers of roads. This [represents] jobs, these are the arteries of the country, this is movement forward, and this is the well-being of the citizens," he said.

Officials announced for UEFA EURO 2012

The UEFA Referees Committee met today in Nyon and appointed the 12 referees to handle the 31 matches of next year's UEFA EURO 2012 final tournament in Poland and Ukraine.

For the first time in the history of the UEFA European Championship, the referees will have added support thanks to a decision by football's lawmakers, the International Football Association Board (IFAB), to allow the continuation of the experiment in the use of additional assistant referees. The full referee teams will be announced in January 2012.

Ukraine to host EuroBasket 2015

Ukraine has received the right to host the European basketball championship in 2015.

FIBA Europe President Olafur Rafnsson announced a respective decision by the FIBA Europe Board in Munich, Germany, on Sunday.
The proposed EuroBasket 2015 venues are in the cities of Kharkiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk and the capital Kyiv for the first round with Odesa, Lviv and again Kyiv hosting the second round and the finals.

UEFA EURO 2012 gains new currency in Ukraine

The National Bank of Ukraine, the sole authority responsible for issuing money in Ukraine, has released a series of commemorative coins for UEFA EURO 2012.

There are 12 coins in the series. Eleven coins in gold, silver and nickel silver have been officially put into circulation, and a coin with a face value of one hryvnia will be issued in early 2012.

New terminal at Lviv Airport put into trial operation, to be opened in March 2012

A new terminal at Lviv Airport has been put into trial operation, the head of the directorate for the construction of Euro 2012 facilities in Lviv, Volodymyr Shadrin, has said.

"We've finished the construction of the terminal's first stage and put it into trial operation. The terminal will start working at full capacity on March 25 next year, when aircraft will switch to the summer schedule," he told reporters on Wednesday, December 28.

 

EURO finals schedule confirmed

The finals schedule has been confirmed with Poland starting the tournament against Greece and other opening games including Germany v Portugal, Spain v Italy and England v France.  Poland will launch the tournament on Friday 8 June at 18.00CET against Greece in Warsaw followed by the other Group A opener between Russia and the Czech Republic at 20.45CET.  The next day the Netherlands face Denmark in Kharkiv and Germany take on Portugal in Lviv to begin Group B, and on 10 June Group C starts as holders Spain play Italy and the Republic of Ireland are matched with Croatia.

Ticket sales for fans of EURO finalists launched

Ticket sales have begun exclusively on UEFA.com for supporters of the 16 teams involved at UEFA EURO 2012 until 29 February, with lotteries to decide which applicants receive tickets.

Following the finals draw in Kyiv on 2 December, ticket sales for supporters of the 16 national teams qualified for UEFA EURO 2012 started today, exclusively on UEFA.com.

Lubkivsky: France to live and train at FC Shakhtar base during Euro 2012

The French national football team has decided to live and train at the Kirsha training facility of FC Shakhtar Donetsk, the press service of the Euro 2012 Local Organizing Committee in Ukraine has reported, citing its director, Markiyan Lubkivsky.

EURO draw throws up fascinating group tests

The 16 UEFA EURO 2012 contenders were placed into four hugely challenging groups by Friday's draw which pitted Poland against Greece in the opening game of the tournament.

Holders Spain will face Italy, Republic of Ireland and Croatia in Group C of UEFA EURO 2012 after Friday's final tournament draw at the Palace of Arts in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Fan consulates to work in Kyiv and Warsaw during Euro 2012

Consulates for football fans will be created to help fans during the hosting of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship in Kyiv and Warsaw.

"These are to be premises with experienced fans and hot lines, where all fans who came to matches of the championship, may receive consultations," Director of the Consular Service Department of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Andriy Olefirov said during a press club in Kyiv on Thursday.


Moreover, due to the findings of the Foreign Ministry, all consulates in Ukraine of those countries that are to participate in Euro 2012 will work 24-hours.

Kharkiv opens 5* Superior Hotel for EURO 2012

Kharkiv has opened the five-star Superior Hotel, which was constructed as part of Ukraine's preparations for holding the finals of the EURO 2012 under the program of public and private partnership.

"This is the first hotel in Kharkiv that was designed from the start as a five-star hotel," the deputy head of Kharkiv Regional State administration, Yuriy Sapronov, told reporters.

Kozyrna Karta wins tender to service EURO 2012 Fan Zone in Kiev

Kozyrna Karta has been selected as the only operator for servicing the fan zone in downtown Kyiv during the hosting the EURO 2012 European football championship, Anatoliy Holubchenko, the Вeputy Рead of Kyiv City Administration, has said.

"We held a tender to select a single operator of the fan zone. Kozyrna Karta won the tender," he said at a press conference in Kyiv. Holubchenko said that Kozyrna Karta would assume all expenses on establishing, servicing, managing and guarding the fan zone. "If there wasn't a single operator, Kyiv city would have to spend around 40 million UAH on this," he said. Holubchenko also said according to the calculations of the operator, no profit is seen now.

FC Karpaty to play at Arena Lviv stadium

FC Karpaty Lviv and the Arena Lviv stadium, which was built for the Euro 2012 European Football Championship, have reached a mutually beneficial agreement that the match of the 20th round of the Ukrainian Premier League between Karpaty and Dynamo Kyiv, as well as the club's subsequent home matches, will be played at the new stadium.

"The sides reached this agreement, taking into account their common desire to meet the highest standards for organizing football matches and providing the maximum comfort for the fans," reads a statement posted on the club's official Web site.

Olympic Stadium opens in Kyiv

December date for EURO finals draw in Kyiv

The UEFA EURO 2012 final tournament draw will take place at the Ukraine Palace of Arts in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on 2 December, starting at 18.00CET (20.00 local time).

The 16 teams that will participate in the EURO finals will be divided into four groups of four teams each (Groups A to D).

Bicycle lanes to be placed on 62 streets in Kyiv by 2012

According to the program for the installation and development of bicycle lanes in Kyiv for 2010-2012, seventeen bicycle routes with a total length of 161 kilometers will operate on 62 Kyiv streets by 2012, the press service of Kyiv City State Administration reported, referring to the Main Transport Department.

In the near future, the placing of bicycle lanes a total of 38 kilometers long will start on the Troyeschyna, Brovary, Trukhanovsky, Vyshgorod and Borschahivka routes.

Volunteers registration for EURO 2012 prolonged

The registration of volunteers for work during the preparations for and hosting the EURO 2012 in Ukraine and Poland has been prolonged by two weeks, until October 16.

"The local organizing committees in Ukraine and Poland decided to prolong the registration of volunteers on the official website of UEFA so that everyone who wishes could enter the competition to join a team of volunteers for this historic event," the Ukraine 2012 Information Center reported on September 28, 2011 with a reference to the EURO 2012 local organizing committee in Ukraine.

The largest arena Ukraine - NSC "Olympiyskiy” – is 95%ready for opening. That was announced today, on September 8, by the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Infrastructure Boris Kolesnikov during the inspection visit to the stadium.

"Today, only one month left before the opening of the stadium: of course, lots of work still to be done , but mostly it is of cosmetic nature. It remain to perform the installation of seats, complete the installation of the roof and equip indoor rooms – but first and foremost I stress the importance of equipment installation and staff training” the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine said. “ So October 8 is the grand opening of the largest stadium in our country".

UEFA President pleased with Ukraine's progress

The message from UEFA President Michel Platini's visit to Lviv, Donetsk, Kharkiv and Kyiv is that Ukraine is doing fine with its preparations to host UEFA EURO 2012.  UEFA President Michel Platini received a progress report on Ukraine's preparations for UEFA EURO 2012 after visiting all four of the country's host cities during a two-day whistle-stop tour. Mr Platini was joined by UEFA Executive Committee member František Laurinec, who is also head of the UEFA Stadium and Security Committee, as well as UEFA Events SA CEO David Taylor, UEFA EURO 2012 commissioner Jacques Lambert and UEFA Events operations director Martin Kallen.

NATO experts to prepare security guidelines for Ukraine during EURO 2012

NATO will prepare recommendations for Ukraine concerning the provision of security during the EURO 2012 European Football Championship.

"This May we received an official request from Ukraine, and have been actively working out the recommendations since. The current visit of a group of experts of the alliance consisting of eight people is another stage of this work," Evert Somer, a civil emergency expert from NATO, told reporters on Thursday, September 27.

Amsterdam ArenA supports EURO 2012 stadium projects in Ukraine in the frame of German Ukrainian Development Cooperation

The UEFA Euro 2012 Championship will next year be jointly hosted by Poland and the Ukraine. The Amsterdam ArenA provides since May 2011 local training & operational support in two host cities: Kiev and Lviv. In the NSC Olympiyskiy stadium in Kiev five of the matches for the Euro 2012 tournament including the final on the 1st of July 2012 will be played.

The Amsterdam ArenA organization gained experience in various international stadium projects that have been part of the UEFA Euro and FIFA World Cups. Two representatives of the multifunctional stadium in the Netherlands are now providing on-site support in Kiev and Lviv. This support exists of providing the local management teams with operational support in areas such as safety and security, stadium organization, emergency planning, stewarding and contracts with venue lessees and venue sponsors.

Yanukovych: EURO 2012 infrastructure in Ukraine to serve many generations

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said he believes that the infrastructure built in Ukraine as part of preparations for the EURO 2012 will serve Ukrainians in future.  "I'm confident that the infrastructure built in Ukraine will serve many generations," he said at a meeting with UEFA President Michel Platini in Kyiv.

Yanukovych said he was proud that he, along with Platini, had a chance to participate in Ukraine's preparations for this tournament. "This is a historic event in the life of our country," he said. Yanukovych said the EURO 2012 preparations filled the life of the UEFA president, as well as life in Ukraine, with new meaning. "Ukraine is a footballing country. What we lack sometimes is a beautiful game at our favorite clubs. We hope that they will please us with their results," he said.

UEFA allocates EUR 8 million to train Euro 2012 volunteers

UEFA has allocated EUR 8 million to train volunteers in Ukraine and Poland to assist at the matches of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship, Head of the Euro 2012 Local Organizing Committee in Ukraine Markiyan Lubkivsky has said.

"This volunteer project costs approximately EUR 8 million. This is an investment being made by UEFA in the volunteer project," he told journalists in Kyiv on Thursday after the presentation of the uniform for Euro 2012 volunteers.

Ukraine to open 2 Arenas of EURO 2012 in October

The Olimpiyskiy National Sport Complex, the main stadium in Ukraine hosting EURO 2012, will be opened on October 8, said Vice Minister and Minister of Infrasturcture Borys Kolesnikov. He confirmed that the grand opening of the stadium in Lviv will take place on October 28. Kolesnykov said the new stadiums in Kyiv and Lviv are on the stage of functional preparedness, and construction works are on their final stage. Some areas are 100% ready and some are 70% finished - such as, for example, tracks in Olimpiyskiy NSC, but they have no special influence on opening of the stadium. “We have no critical issues which could interfere with opening of those arenas in October,” Kolesnykov stressed.

Piatnytsky: Kyiv, Brussels resolve all major issues on FTA, planning to complete work by mid-October

 Brussels – The 18th round of talks on the creation of a free trade area between Ukraine and the EU, which began in Brussels on September 19, will last until mid-October 2011, the head of the Ukrainian delegation, Valeriy Piatnytsky, has said.

He told reporters in Brussels on Friday that the Ukrainian and European sides had agreed on all major issues.

"Everything has been done, including a meeting between First Deputy Prime Minister Andriy Kliuyev and EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht, in order to resolve all of the conceptual issues and most technical issues," Piatnytsky said.

NSK Olympiyskiy Stadium will get natural grass in September

In the bowl of the NSK Olympiyskiy more than 50% of individual spectator seats are now installed, and works on the installation of the future football field are under way – drainage, irrigation and heating systems are installed. The rolled turf will be delivered to Kyiv from Slovakia in September and installed at the Kyiv stadium. Grass will be rolled up and taken to Kyiv in special refrigeration stores.

According to experts, roots of the lawn will need about two weeks, after which the field will be ready for football matches.

Lviv Stadium to open on October, 28

The Lviv Arena will be festively inaugurated on 28 October 2011. This date was confirmed during a working meeting in Lviv of the Ukraine Vice Prime Minister and Infrastructure Minister Borys Kolesnikov. “There are 60 days left before the inauguration of the Lviv Arena. The schedule is tough, but we prepare for this date in a proper way. So, residents of Lviv can think about the clothes they will wear during the festivities,” the government member noted.

EURO 2012 Hospitality area to be equipped near Donbas Arena

The proposed hospitality area next to the Donbas Arena stadium in Donetsk is to cover 16,000 square meters, reads a posting on the Web site of the Ukraine 2012 Information Center.

According to the center, the area will be located on the territory 300 meters around the stadium. It is also reported that two months before the start of EURO 2012, lampposts will be demounted all over the area, and a special canopy will cover the lawn surface there.

Ukraine repairs 65-70% of roads for Euro 2012

Some 65-70 percent of Ukrainian roads, which are being repaired for the EURO 2012, have been completed, according to the Ukraine-2012 Information Centre.

"As of today, about 70% of repairs of the road network for the EURO 2012 have been accomplished in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Donetsk and Lviv. Kyiv and Donetsk lead the pack in the [roads] construction with more than 70% accomplished," the deputy director of the Infrastructure Department of Ukraine's National Agency for the preparations for EURO 2012, Volodymyr Bondarenko, said in an interview with the Ukraine-2012 Magazine.

UEFA president to inspect Ukraine on Sept. 26-27

President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Michel Platini will visit Ukraine on September 26-27, Head of the EURO 2012 Local Organizing Committee in Ukraine Markiyan Lubkivsky has told the Ukraine 2012 Information Center.

According to Lubkivsky, during the inspection trip, Platini will visit the Ukrainian host cities and will examine their major infrastructure facilities.

Passenger servicing will take one minute at Kharkiv airport during EURO 2012

Second stadium in Ukraine to be secured with Nedap AEOS

After successfully securing the Olympic stadium in Kiev, Nedap Security Management announced today that it will also secure the new Lviv stadium which is to be used in the UEFA 2012 European Championship.

The Lviv stadium which is still under construction, covers an area of 9 hectares and will have a gross capacity of 33,000 seats. It will consist of VIP-clubs, galleries, restaurants, a media centre, training centres and administrative offices. The hypermodern stadium was looking for a modern and advanced security system, that is capable of handling both the access control for approximately 390 doors and the intrusion detection for the complete stadium. AEOS was the perfect fit.

Road repairs for EURO 2012 to cost Kharkiv 330 million UAH

Kharkiv will spend 330 million UAH on repairing roads in 2011, reads a posting on the Web site of Kharkiv City Council, with reference to First Deputy Kharkiv Mayor Oleksandr Kryvtsov.

"We're also expecting to receive state financial aid of 500 million UAH for repairs to all roads in the city, as part of the state targeted program of the preparations for and holding the EURO 2012 in Ukraine. These assets would give us the opportunity to overhaul roads in Kharkiv next spring," Kryvtsov said.

Preparations for introduction of high-speed train services going to schedule, says Ukrzaliznytsia

The State Railway Administration of Ukraine (Ukrzaliznytsia) has said that the preparation of infrastructure for the introduction of high-speed train services is going to schedule.

"The work is being done according to the schedules approved by Ukrzaliznytsia's director general. The major part of the work will be finished by late 2011. We're dividing passenger flows at Donetsk station for the public's convenience, we're preparing a contact network and tracks for trains that will travel at up to 160 kilometers per hour. Rarely used level crossings will be closed to increase safety and some level crossings will be equipped with barriers," the press service said, citing First Deputy Ukrzaliznytsia Director General Serhiy Bolobolin.

EURO 2012 to add 0.8% to real GDP growth in Ukraine, says Economy Ministry

Holding the EURO 2012 in Ukraine will add 0.8% to the country's real GDP growth, according to the Economy Ministry of Ukraine.

"2012 will be the year of completing the preparations for the EURO 2012 and the year of holding the tournament in Ukraine. This will add 0.8% to the real GDP growth and will account for 12% of the real GDP growth," First Deputy Economic Development and Trade Minister Vadym Kopylov told Ukraine-2012 Information Centre.

Boryspil Airport to transfer domestic flights to Terminal B in September

State Enterprise Boryspil International Airport intends to transfer domestic flights from Terminal A to terminal B starting from September 1, 2011.

"At present, due to the opening of new flights and destinations through the main airport of the country, the share of transit passengers in total passenger traffic has increased," the Infrastructure Ministry said in a press release.

Reikartz Hotel Management to open three-star hotel in Sevastopol on July 20

Reikartz Hotel Management (Kyiv), the managing company of the chain of Reikartz Hotels&Resorts hotels, on July 20 will open the three-star Reikartz Sevastopol hotel with 25 rooms in Sevastopol (Crimea), which will be the tenth in the chain in Ukraine, according to a company press release.

The price of a room at the hotel starts from UAH 450 per day. The hotel has a 65-seat restaurant and two conference halls for 100 and 35 people.

Fan zone for 35,000 people to be opened in Lviv for EURO 2012

An official fan zone for 35,000 people will be opened in Lviv for the EURO 2012, according to the press service of Lviv City Council.

The fan zone, with a general area of 20,000 square meters, will be located between the Opera House and the square in front of the Monument to Taras Shevchenko.
The press service also informed that under preliminary agreements, screens are to be installed in the fan zone, on which football matches would be broadcast. In addition, kiosks with food, and stages for entertainment programs for residents and guests of the city will be installed in the area.

Airports in Ukraine EURO 2012 cities exempt from duties on purchase of equipment

The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has exempt the airports of the cities that are to host the EURO 2012 from entrance duty on the purchase of equipment for airfields and ground servicing.

Until September 1, 2012, the airports will not have to pay the duties on goods that are not produced in Ukraine or are produced but do not meet international technical requirements and requirements of international civil aviation organizations, which are imported to Ukraine for the construction and equipment of airports that are to service the EURO 2012 finals.

Fans to travel for free during Euro 2012 in Kyiv

Kyiv City State Administration is planning to introduce a combined ticket system during the finals of the EURO 2012, reads a press release by the administration, referring to the administration's deputy head, Anatoliy Holubchenko.

He said that the fans that have tickets for EURO 2012 matches would be able to use public transport for free on match days and until noon on the next day.
According to the press release, all aspects of the introduction of the combined ticket system are currently being agreed with UEFA.

Ukraine 112 emergency phone service to be launched by EURO 2012

Ukrainian Emergencies Minister Viktor Baloha has said that a 112 emergency phone number will be launched in the cities of Ukraine that will host the Euro 2012 European Football Championship (Kyiv, Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Lviv) by the beginning of the sports event.

"By the start of EURO 2012, the 112 system will be available in all cities that are hosting the championship," he said at a press conference on July 1 in Kyiv.

Best Western International to open three-star hotel in Kyiv in 2012

Best Western International (the United States), whose official representative in Ukraine is ArtBuild Hotel Group (ABHG, Kyiv), plans in 2012 to open a three-star hotel in Kyiv, which will become the second one in the chain in Ukraine, ABHG Development Director Natalia Lysniak has said.

"A new Best Western hotel is unlikely to appear in Ukraine in 2011. But another hotel could open in 2012," she said.

Kolesnikov: Staff training, transport infrastructure - most pressing issues in preparations for EURO 2012

The training of staff and the organization of the work of public transport are the most pressing issues in Ukraine's preparations for the EURO 2012, with one year to go until the final tournament kicks off, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Infrastructure Minister Borys Kolesnikov has said, according to the Ukraine 2012 Information Center. Kolesnikov was speaking in Nyon on Wednesday, ahead of the next meeting of UEFA's supervisory board on preparations for the European football championship.

Ukraine to build 2,000-4,000 km of roads per year

A total of 1,500 kilometers of roads will be built in Ukraine in 2011, according to Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov.

"We set the goal of building 1,000 kilometers of roads in 2011, but the president… says that we should build 1,500 kilometers. Since the president sets the tasks, we'll build 1,500 [kilometers of roads],"he said, speaking at the opening of a section of the Stryi-Kirovohrad-Znamianka highway bypassing Babanka (Cherkasy region).

EBRD considering provision of 27 million dollars to reconstruct Hotel Leipzig in Kyiv

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is considering the provision of $27 million in financing to Grand Plaza, a special purpose company incorporated in Ukraine and part of Istil Group, to reconstruct and operate the Hotel Leipzig at 34/39 Prorizna Street (at the crossing with Volodymyrska Street) in Kyiv, Ukraine.

"The EBRD is considering financing the reconstruction and operation of the Hotel Leipzig located in the centre of Kyiv, Ukraine. After reconstruction, the project will consist of a 180-room, four-star hotel," reads a bank report.

UEFA praises fast pace of Ukraine's preparations for EURO 2012

A visiting UEFA delegation carrying out inspections in Ukraine has noted the rapid pace of the country's preparations for hosting the Euro 2012 European Football Championship, and has called for this pace to be maintained.

"Ukraine now needs to keep up the pace that it has achieved. If so, the preparations will be successful," Executive Director of UEFA Events SA David Taylor said at a press conference in Kyiv, Ukraine-2012 Information Center said on Tuesday on May 31.

EIB provides EUR 450m financing to Ukravtodor to reconstruct Kyiv approach roads

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has provided EUR 450 million in financing to the State Road Service of Ukraine (Ukravtodor) to reconstruct the approach roads to Kyiv.

An Interfax-Ukraine correspondent has reported that the agreement was signed in Kyiv on Friday May 27.
The total value of the project is estimated at EUR 1.07 billion. Ukraine's share of the project is EUR 170 million.

Kyiv's Ukraina Palace to host EURO 2012 final draw

The final draw ceremony for the UEFA EURO 2012 will be staged at Ukraina Palace of Art in Kyiv, December 2, 19.00 p.m., local time (18.00 CET), reads the official newsletter EURO 2012 Alive.
The 16 qualified teams will be drawn into four groups of four, Poland have already been allocated into Group A and will play their group matches in Warsaw and Wroclaw, whereas Ukraine will lead Group D and play in Kyiv and Donetsk.

EBRD to lend EUR 450 m to Ukraine for repair of road approaches to Kyiv

 The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has agreed to the raising of a EUR 450 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the repair of six road approaches to the city of Kyiv.
While presenting a law on the ratification of the loan agreement between Ukraine and the EBRD in parliament, Head of the State Agency for Automobile Roads Volodymyr Demishkan said that the loan would be raised at an interest rate in the euro Libor+1 for 15 years with a grace period of four years. He noted that the total payment on the loan would be lower than inflation rate.

UDC Holding and French-based Louvre Hotels to create chain of low-cost Premiere Classe hotels in Ukraine

UDC Holding, part of the Universal Investment Group (UIG, both based in Kyiv) is planning jointly with French-based hotel operator Louvre Hotels&Golden Tulip to create a chain of 25 one-star hotels under the Premiere Classe brand in Ukraine, according to UDC Holding.

According to a company presentation prepared for the seventh annual Ukrainian Investment Summit organized by the Adam Smith Institute held in London on May 16-18, the investment in the project to create a chain with a total of 3,138 rooms, which is to be realized in 2011-2013, is estimated at $99.4 million.

Parliament ready to cancel import duty on equipment for airports by EURO 2012

Poland and Ukraine mark one year to go

The countdown to UEFA EURO 2012 has started in earnest in Poland and Ukraine with Wednesday June 8 set to mark exactly a year to go until the final tournament kicks off.

A special press conference was held in Kyiv to celebrate the occasion with international media, key figures from UEFA and some of the Ukrainian public and football authorities all in attendance. UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino underlined the mood ahead of the final tournament's first visit to central or eastern Europe, saying: "We are absolutely positive that UEFA EURO 2012 in Poland and Ukraine will be a success."

Lviv airport terminal is 56% complete

A new terminal at the Lviv International Airport, which is under construction ahead of UEFA EURO 2012, is 56% ready. The 120 m long and 10 m high terminal roof is being glazed with laminated glass at the moment. Laminated glass consists of several layers bonded together using heat and pressure. The material is normally used in skylight glazing, automobile windshields and such. Besides, four jet bridges of German origin are expected to arrive at the end of the summer.

Readiness of football stadium in Lviv at 64%

The readiness of the new football stadium in Lviv that is being built for the EURO 2012 European football championship is 64%, reads a posting n the Web site of the Ukraine 2012 information center, referring to director general of Directorate of EURO 2012 facilities in Lviv, Volodymyr Shadrin.

According to the report, the football field is being prepared, and in particular, roof elements are being installed. Builders have also started developing the territory near the stadium.

Ukraine starts selecting volunteers for Euro 2012

The registration of volunteers for preparations for and holding the EURO 2012 has started in Ukraine, UEFA EURO 2012 Director in Ukraine Markiyan Lubkivsky said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday June 14.

"The registration of volunteers was launched today," he said, and added that it is planned to involve 6,000 volunteers in Ukraine and Poland in the preparations for and holding the EURO2012. Lubkivsky also said that the first ten volunteers have already applied.

Zhuliany airport director says new terminal likely to open in April 2012

Director General of Kyiv Zhuliany International Airport Denis Kostrzhevsky forecasts that a new passenger terminal with a capacity of 320 persons per hour is likely to open in April 2012.

"It will be commissioned on April 2012. We have no doubts regarding this. We attracted a construction company that has the experience of quick, quality and effective construction. I think that Kyiv will certainly have the terminal by the EURO 2012," he told reporters on Wednesday.

Ukraine National Agency EURO 2012 says that cost of basic facilities is unlikely to grow

The National Agency for Preparations and Holding the Finals of the EURO 2012 and the Implementation of Infrastructure Projects (National Agency EURO 2012) has said that the cost of the construction of stadiums and airports for the EURO 2012 was growing as initially the figure did not take into account many nuances and peculiarities and it is unlikely to grow in the future.

The Head of the Department for Infrastructure Development at the National Agency EURO 2012, Mr. Oleh Lysiuk, said in an interview with the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia Ukraine newspaper that the original versions of these projects were supervised by local authorities and were made to quickly start construction as at that moment time pressed. As a result, the projects did not consider all of the requirements of UEFA. Therefore in March 2010, the agency was organized, "people with experience and understanding of the processes came, and after analyzing the projects it was decided to revise them."

Ukraine establishes Air Express Project Directorate

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is intending to transfer the functions of the customer of the new rail link between Kyiv and Boryspil airport from the airport to the Directorate for the construction and management of the Air Express national project and other infrastructure projects in Kyiv region.

A relevant decision was stipulated in cabinet resolution No. 499 of April 27.

Stadium safety experts hone their skills

An innovative training project relating to safety and security for UEFA EURO 2012 is up and running. The project has been developed jointly by UEFA's Stadium and Security Unit and its partners in the pan-European Think Tank on Policing Football.

The initiative was launched with two five-day training programmes which took place in London, and involved more than 50 police commanders and stadium safety professionals from the two UEFA EURO 2012 host countries, Poland and Ukraine.

Investments at Poznan airport to get underway in near future

Construction work is scheduled to begin at Poznan-Lawica Airport in the spring of 2011.
 The company Hochtief Polska will be responsible for preparing the detailed design as well as carrying out the expansion and modernization of the passenger terminal. The contract will cost in excess of PLN 96.3 (E24.3m) net. The investment will be carried out in stages, in the first of which the contractor will build the new part of the terminal. It will be more than 17.800 m2 in size with two storeys above ground and one level underground.

Modlin airport project closer to launch date

An environmental decision concerning the construction of the planned Warsaw-Modlin Mazovia Airport is legally valid, the Voivodship Court of Administration in Warsaw declared. The ruling paves the way for construction work to begin on the new airport, declared the airport representatives.
The environmental decision, issued by the mayor of Nowy Dwor Mazowiecki on 12 march 2009, has been opposed by various environmental organizations. Ecologists have twice petitioned the Local Government Appeal Court in Warsaw, which in both cases declared the decision to be in accordance with the law.

Reconstruction work continues on Krakow railway station

The construction of a new railway station in Krakow has entered its next stage. The undertaking as a whole will require a budget of PLN 130m (E32.8m) and the project is being jointly financed by the EU within the framework of the Infrastructure and Environment programme. The general contractor for the investment is BUDUS.
Within the framework of this part of the investment, the contractor will build a passageway for pedestrians running under the platforms. As a consequence, the station will be connected with the city centre from the side of Bosacka Street and the Galeria Krakowska shopping centre.

Oekraïne: kabinet verhoogt begroting EK 2012

De begroting EK2012 is voor stadions en luchthaven met 1,7 miljard hryvnia (149 miljoen euro) verhoogd.
Het kabinet van Oekraïne heeft de begroting voor de modernisering van bestaande objecten en de bouw van nieuwe faciliteiten bij het Olympisch nationaal sportcomplex in Kiev met 18,6 procent, ofwel 722 miljoen hryvnia, verhoogd tot 4,6 miljard hrvynia (404 miljoen euro).
Volgens verordening Nr. 382 van 11 april 2011 komt de begroting voor 2011 neer op 169 miljoen euro. 

Poland’s preparations for UEFA EURO 2012™ eighteen months before the Tournament

Eighteen months before UEFA EURO 2012™, 80% of the key and important infrastructure projects related to Poland’s preparation is already at an advanced stage of implementation. The process of Poland’ preparations for the tournament has proceeded from a hardly visible  to the public planning phase, implemented in 2007-2008, and initiation phase in 2009, into an advanced stage of implementation of the previously scheduled and developed investments.

NSK Olympiysky Stadium could be opened in October because of delays

Ukraine Government to allocate UAH 3 billion from Special Fund for roads development in 2011

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a list of roads to be constructed, renovated and overhauled in 2011, and funding for the work.

According to government order No. 325-r dated April 13, in particular, it is planned to allocate UAH 1.383 billion from the national budget special fund for road construction and reconstruction.

Lviv Stadium to be finished on schedule

The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine dismissed Mr. Borys Shakhsuvarov from the post of chief executive officer (CEO) at the State International Airport of Boryspil (Kyiv region) and appointed Mr. Anton Volov in his place.

Before the appointment Mr. Volov was employed as Deputy Chairman of the Ukraine EURO 2012 National Agency, where he was responsible for construction of stadiums and airports. Before that, starting from 2004 Mr. Volov was Chief Financial Officer at Donbasaero Airlines (Donetsk).

Zhulyany Airport plans to start building new Terminal in 1 or 2 months

Kyiv International Airport (Zhulyany) expects that the construction of a new passenger terminal at the airport will start in one or two months, according to Mr. Denys Kostrzhevsky, the Airport's Director General.

"I believe that in a month or two the first brick will be laid," he said at a press conference in Kyiv.

He said that the construction of a business terminal would start at the same time as the building of the new passenger terminal.

Reikartz to open new hotel in Dnipropetrovsk

Kyiv-based Reikartz Hotel Management, a managing company of the Ukrainian hotel chain under the Reikartz Hotels & Resorts brand, will accept its first guests at the Reikartz Dnipropetrovsk four-star hotel on May 1, 2011, reads a company press release.

The report says that the 80-room hotel located in Krasnaya Street has two conference halls, a European and Ukrainian cuisine restaurant and a bar. The hotel also has premium three-room apartments.

UEFA concerned about Polish football hooliganism

In the wake of last Friday's riots by Polish fans following the defeat to Lithuania in Kaunas, UEFA has voiced serious concerns that hooliganism could ruin next year's Euro 2012 tournament, co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine.
Euro 2012 director Martin Kallen expressed grave misgivings today about the conduct of fans."We saw what happened in Kaunas on Friday,' he said. "This is a huge image problem for Poland."
Around 60 fans were detained last Friday night during and after the game with Lithuania, with eight held over for 48 hours on public disorder charges.

Euro 2012 stadium behind schedule?

Poland's National Stadium in Warsaw, venue of the opening match of Euro 2012, is running behind the UEFA deadline by about six months.
UEFA's deadline for the construction is in June, but contractors told the daily that work at the stadium would likely continue for another six months after that date. The opening match of the Euro 2012 tournament is scheduled for June 8, 2012.
There are delays that can no longer be made up, the daily quoted an anonymous head of a contracting company as saying. The CEO said the stadium would be ready for use by June, but that work on it would likely continue until the end of this year.

Construction of the main railway station in Poznan will commence in June

Construction of New Ring Road around Kyiv to start in 2011

Ukrainian Prime Minister Mr. Mykola Azarov forecasts that the construction of a new ring road around Kyiv will be started in 2011.

"A Ring road around Kyiv is a dream of mine. And we will certainly make it come true - we will start it this year," the government's department of information, communications, and public relations quoted Azarov as saying. According to the Premier, this project can be implemented within 2 or 3 years, but numerous technical and financial issues have to be settled first.

New Air Traffic Control Tower of Donetsk Airport will cost UAH 179 million

The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers has assessed costs for an Air Control Tower of the Donetsk airport construction at UAH 178.74 million.

According to the Cabinet resolution, which approves a plan and a working project of the tower construction, the cost of construction and assembly works amounts to UAH 52.357 million; equipment – UAH 89.447 million; installation and launch works – UAH 550,553; and other expenses total UAH 36.389 million.

Two Companies submit Bids to reconstruct Passenger Terminal at Zhuliany Airport

Two companies have submitted applications to participate in a tender to reconstruct the existing passenger terminal, a square, and a parking lot at Kyiv Zhuliany International Airport.

Tender proposals were disclosed on March 11. Both companies are Ukrainian, but their names have not been disclosed.

New 5-star Hotel opened in Truskavets, Lviv region

A new five-star Royal Grand Hotel has been opened in Truskavets town, Lviv region, on March 26 as a part of region’s preparation for the EURO 2012, according to the Web site of Lviv Regional State Administration.

"Not a single kopeck of budget funds had been invested into this project. It is important that the State creates a positive investment climate for this kind of business," the Administration's press service quoted Head of Lviv Regional State Administration Mr. Mykhailo Tsymbaliuk as saying.

Boryspil Terminal D is 40% constructed already

Construction and assembly works at new Terminal D of Boryspil International Airport are 40% completed, the airport's press service has reported.

"In particular, the assembly of the roof, partitions and internal utility networks is being completed. The installation of the metal parts of passenger boarding ramps is continuing. The installation of the luggage sorter has been started. The installation of the 'warm floor' system in the northern part of the passenger gallery has started," reads the report.

EBRD investment in Lviv Electric Transport comes to EUR 38 million

The investment of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Lviv municipal electric transport comes to EUR 38 million, the press service of Lviv city council has said.

LvivElekroTrans will use 12 million EUR to modernize the company, rolling stock, tram depots, develop tram infrastructure and substations, and improve energy efficiency. While EUR 26 million will be used to reconstruct tracks and roads on the routes of tramlines No. 2 and No. 6.

Boryspil Airport expects to finish Apron F reconstruction in May 2011

The Boryspil International Airport expects to finish the reconstruction of its Apron F in May 2011, the airport's press service has reported.

According to the report, the airport carried out the expansion of taxiway ten between apron M and the main taxiway as a part of the first and second stages of the reconstruction started in May 2010, which is to widen the tarmac area for six types of aircrafts, including the Boeing 737-900.

Government to channel over UAH 1 billion for UEFA EURO 2012 security

Over UAH 1 billion (USD 1 - UAH 7.94) will be sent for security during the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship in Ukraine, Oleksandr Birsan, first deputy chief of the National Agency for EURO 2012, told reporters Wednesday.

According to him, these funds are provided by the state target program on preparations for EURO 2012. Particular attention is paid exactly to the needs of the Interior Ministry, which requires technical re-equipment, the purchase of transport and communication systems. "The program also concerns the Security Service of Ukraine, it is about special equipment," the official added.

Where will the visitors be treated during the Euro?

In less than one and a half year before the tournament, the full list of the so-called reference hospitals has been announced. This list concerns the institutions dedicated to medical cover in the 4 host cities of Euro 2012 in Poland.
The list includes hospitals representing medical facilities for stadiums, fan zones, the football teams, the (organizers of) UEFA and other guests. The main criterion for creating a list of health care centers was their location in regard to the official tournament: i.e. the stadiums, fan zones, the ‘UEFA Family accommodations’ and the training camps.

Ukraine Government ups Cost of Reconstruction of Olympiysky Stadium by 29%

The Government of Ukraine has increased the cost of the reconstruction of the Olympiysky National Sports Complex in Kyiv by UAH 872.5 million, or 29%.

According to the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministries, now the cost of the Stadium reconstruction is UAH 3.878 billion. The increase in the cost has to be financed through additional state support.

Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Mr. Borys Kolesnykov on March 14 said there is not enough time to build an electric train shuttle from Boryspil Airport to Kyiv before the EURO 2012. Mr. Borys Kolesnykov said that it would take two years to complete the project.

Terminal D at Kyiv's Boryspil International Airport will be commissioned in a year, Mr. Burak Talu, President of JV Dogus/Alarko/YDA, the main contractor for the construction of the terminal has announced.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS) in 2011 will upgrade 80% of railway border crossing points, which will serve the guests of the EURO 2012, Chief of SBGS Border Control and Registration Department, Mr. Oleksandr Binkovsky announced.

Ukraine has 81% fulfilled the requirements for accommodation of UEFA's key target groups, according to the UKRINFORM-based EURO 2012 Information Center.

At present, the official tour operator of the tournament concluded corresponding agreements for 14,737 rooms, out of 18,185 needed in hotels of 5/4/3 star category.
According to the National Agency for UEFA EURO 2012, Kyiv contracted 6,495 rooms, Donetsk - 2,450, Kharkiv - 2,963 and Lviv - 2,829.

Guests of the EURO 2012 will be able to communicate with Ukrainian law enforcement agencies via audio phrase interpreters, speaking 15 languages, First Deputy Chief of the Department of Public Safety at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Volodymyr Salynsky told.

"One of the know-how for the EURO is the usage of a voice interpreter in communicating with foreigners. This is an initiative of Deputy Prime Minister Borys Kolesnikov, Interior Ministry's leadership supported it, and plans to buy about 1,000 such devices," he said.

According to experts, about half of the supporters present at the stadiums and fan zones will benefit from the accommodation facilities of various types and standards, eg in hotels, motels, guesthouses, lodgings private, or even at campsites. This means that Warsaw will need 100 000 beds, 50 000 in Poznan, Gdansk 85 000, and Wroclaw 50 000.

Over PLN 64m for Warsaw Stadium rail station revamp

PKP PLK is planning to renovate the Warsaw Stadium railway station. A contract has just be signed with a consortium consisting of Bilfinger Berger Budownictwo and przedsiebiorstwo Agat, which will be paid in excess of E16.4m for carrying out the investment.
The station will be roofed and the existing platforms given a face lift. There are also plans to upgrade the passageway under the railway tracks, together with the passageway’s lighting. The lighting on the platforms and outside the station will also be overhauled. In addition, the contractor will be responsible for refurbishing a 2.3 km section of railway line. The investment is expected to be completed by November 2011.

PLN 512m for revamping railway stations 2011

Polish State railways has set aside approximately PLN510m (E131,5m) for modernizing railway stations this year. The first tenders, are scheduled to take place at the beginning of February.
According to statements made by PKP’s authorities, renovation work is due to commence on 23 stations, including those in Opole and Radom. How many stations eventually will be upgraded will depend on local governments. This is because PKP expects those municipalities in which particular stations are located to help cover the costs of the renovation works.

UEFA launches Euro 2012 ticket sales

The UEFA has launched the registration process for its online sale of match tickets for the Euro 2012 tournament in Poland and Ukraine. Fans need to open a user account on the UEFA's ticket portal in order to apply for tickets. As the demand is expected to be higher than the ticket availability, a lottery will be conducted in April among the applicants. Ticket prices ranges from 30 to 600 euro for the 31 matches played in eight cities (four in each country) at the tournament June 8-July 1, 2012.

UEFA has set alarm bells ringing with a damning assessment of the new City Stadium in Poznan, one of the four Polish venues for Euro 2012.
According to experts, the stairs and evacuation exits are too narrow, whilst the gates attached to the latter open too slowly.
The rebuilt stadium, which had its inaugural opening in September 2010, is the home of local team Lech Poznan.

NSK Olympiyskyi Stadium is 70% ready

Work on the reconstruction of the Olympiysky National Sports Complex in Kyiv is proceeding in line with the approved schedule and is currently 70% finished - says a press release of the Stadium.

According to the report, in particular, work on the fan servicing area is 76% finished, the VIP zone 64%, the underground parking lot 41%, the cold zone facilities (stands) 69%, load-bearing walls 98%, and a bypass road with an overpass is 88% finished.

Automated traffic management system to be introduced in Kyiv

It is expected that a first stage of the automated traffic management system in Kyiv will be launched in autumn 2011.

"We want to launch the system by coming November" the deputy head of Kyiv City Administration Mr. Anatoliy Holubchenko said at a meeting in the Automated Traffic System control center on January 27.
He said that around UAH 40 million has been already spent for the system development. In total UAH 150 million is required to introduce first and second stages of the system. The first stage will include 76 sets of traffic lights downtown Kyiv. Another 150 sets of traffic lights are to be upgraded in the area adjacent to downtown Kyiv.

AZIMUT Hotels Company (Russia) has signed a contract to manage the four-star hotel in downtown Kiev. The contract was signed with Ariks Ltd for 20 years.

The new hotel will be located on the right bank of the Dnieper River at the intersection of Shevchenko boulevard and Gonchar street, near the railway station. The hotel will have 235 rooms, as well as three conference rooms, fitness center, restaurant, bar and panorama café. Krakow-Balice airport will have a second category of ILS

Polish Railways: There is no investor for Warsaw West Railway Station

PLN 500m earmarked for infrastructure investments in Poznan

Poznan’s local authorities are planning a series of investments intended to improve transport links around the city during the Euro 2012 football tournament.
Euro Poznan 2012, the substitute investor for the project, has just called a tender to choose a contractor to design and reconstruct tram routes. The undertaking will require an estimated budget of PLN 185m (E46.7m). The investment will entail modernizing lines running along Grunwaldzka, reymonta, Przybyszewskiego and Hetmanska streets as well as overhauling and reconstructing tram stops, junctions, traffic lights and street lighting. The entire project has been divided into two stages. The tram lines and accompanying infrastructure will be refurbished in stage one. On the other hand, Grunwaldzka Street itself will be redeveloped in stage two – at a cost of approximately PLN 30m (E7.6m). a tender for this part of the investment will be announced at the end of 2010 nd both stages of the project will be carried out simultaneously and be completed in Q1 2012.
At the present time Poznan is holding another tender to build a tram line from the Lecha estate up to the Franowo district, and at the beginning of 2011 work is due to begin on extending the Poznan Fast Tramway line up to West Station (Dworzec zachodni). A tender to choose the contractor for the investment is to be announced towards the end of November this year. Each of the scheduled projects will require outlays ranging from tens of millions of zloty to several hundred million, and the city will spend in excess of PLN 500m (E126.1m) on this aim. Olympic Stadium in Kiev to be secured with Nedap AEOS

Underground car park to appear in central Wroclaw

The local authorities in Wroclaw are preparing the groundwork for an underground parking garage below Nowy Targ square. The investment will be carried out in collaboration with a private investor, the company Mota-Engil, Gazeta Wyborcza reported.
Within the framework of the undertaking the private investor will build a three level underground parking garage with 331 parking spaces. The investment will require expenditure totaling just under PLN 40m (E9.7m) and the company will manage the facility and derive a profit from it for a period of 40 years.

The governor of Mazowieckie Voivodship signed the decisions concerning the location targeting the building of the Police Training Centre in Legionowo, which will be the center of operations for Euro 2012.

Extension envisaged for Poznan Fast Tram

The authorities in Wielkopolskie voivodship have issued environmental approval for plans to extend the Poznan fast Tram in the direction of the railway station, PAP announced.
The authorities want to build a tram line 2 km in length that will connect the existing line with western railway station. It will require outlays of PLN 85m (E20.8m), PLN45m (11m) of which will be covered by EU sources.

Poland’s organization of the Euro 2012 football championships will have a positive effect on the country’s economy and GDP for at least a decade after the tournament ends, a new report shows.
The Warsaw School of Economics, Jagiellonian University and University of Lodz published a joint paper in which they claim that Poland’s accumulated GDP growth until 2020 will amount to some 27.9 billion zloty (6.74 billion euro).


Partner needed for new stadium and sports hall auditorium construction in Radom

Radom’s local authorities intend to build a new stadium and sports hall-auditorium, both carried out as public-private partnerships.
The city has recently announced a tender to choose a private investor with whom it plans to collaborate. According to the project guidelines, the new stadium will be able to hold up to 16.000 fans. In turn, the sports hall-auditorium will be equipped with stands for up to 5.000-6.000 people.

A tender has been announced to find a tenant for PGE Arena Gdansk. The winner will be the bidder which offers the highest annual rent, which cannot be less than PLN 2m (E0,5m) gross. More building time needed for Warsaw stadium

A consortium comprising the firms Hydrobudowa Polska and PBG, which is building the national stadium in Warsaw, has signed an annex to its contract extending the duration of the project by 57 days. Poland and Ukraine begin construction of new Border Crossing Point

Poland and Ukraine have begun construction of the Budomezh-Grushev international automobile border crossing on the Ukrainian-Polish border in the Lviv region – the Lviv regional administration announced this in a statement.

The Lviv Region First Deputy Governor Mr. Myron Yankiv said that the project would be completed in two years. According to him, Ukraine plans to develop its road infrastructure by building a road branching to the Grushev. About UAH 20 million is intended for construction of the automobile road.

Lviv Skif Stadium to be reconstructed

Reconstruction of Lviv Skif Stadium was started in June 2010 in order to upgrade the facility to requirements set by UEFA for the EURO 2012 training facilities.

Skif Stadium is owned by the Lviv State University of Physical Training and its reconstruction is financed by the State Budget. Total budget for Skif development project planned is 79,5 million UAH.

Government allocates UAH 168 million for Lviv Stadium Construction

The Cabinet of Ministers has allocated UAH 168 million for the construction of the Lviv stadium for Euro 2012, the press service of the Lviv city council said.

On June 18, the construction company launched the works at the western part of the stadium and commenced the construction of sitting area.
The construction works are currently being held at two tiers. 400 builders work in two shifts at the construction site.

Kick off upgrading Wroclaw Central Station

Monday May 31, Wroclaw commenced on the work of the reconstruction and modernization of the Main Railway Station. Trains are to be put into service in late March 2012. The total investment costs around 324 million zł.
The implementation of the entire investment (headed by the investment company Budimex SA) is complicated, because of the historic elements of the station which should be preserved and subject to renewal by the restorers. The oldest parts of the Wroclaw Central Railway Station are built in the mid-nineteenth century. At the turn of the century the station was rebuilt. Its façade is maintained in English Neo-Gothic style.

Higher GDP growth forecast

Analysts from the Center for Social and Economic (CASE) expect the Polish GDP in the whole 2010 to by 3.5% higher than a year ago. Forecasts made three month ago assumed the growth to stay at the level of 3.2%.
CASE economists expect private consumption growth due to slightly higher wage growth and declining unemployment. It is expected to reach 3.1%.

Reconstruction of the East Station in Warsaw will commence end of July

The work on the reconstruction of Warsaw’s East Station will commence in the end of July or the beginning of August. The station will be ready before the Euro 2012 championships. The rebuilding will cost 38 mln zł and the executer will be Strabag.
According to the board of PKP, most passengers in the capital during Euro 2012 will take the central train station, the eastern and Warsaw Stadium.

Gdansk launched a tender for the stadium operator

Tuesday June 2,  a two-stage tender has been declared for the future operator of PGE Arena. The winner will be known in July.
The construction is going according to plan. According to the spokesman of the Office of Investments Euro 2012 in Gdansk, Michael Kruszynski, they intend to complete the assembly of steel in July. At that time the operator will also be known. The steel structure, which is the basis of the facade and roof of the building, consists of 82 frames. Each weighs 66 ton, has a length of 100 meters and will be installed on the typical polycarbonate plates of different shades of amber.

Ukraine: new state target programme for EURO 2012 in Ukraine is adopted

The Government of Ukraine has approved a new State Target Programme for the preparation for and holding EURO 2012 in Ukraine having increased the total amount of its financing by almost UAH 16 bln (approx. EUR 1.7 bln) to reach almost UAH 142 bln (approx. EUR 15 bln).
 
The increase is provided in the Resolution issued by the Cabinet of Ministers No. 357 dated 14 April 2010 that came into force on 29 May 2010.

Changes in the schedule of construction of the National Stadium

The completion of the main steel structure of the National Stadium in Warsaw is postponed from June to July 2010. The date for completion has been declared to UEFA - June 2011.
In April the National Sport centre received a proposal from the general contractor, consortium ALPINE BAU DEUTSCHLAND AG, ALPINE BAU GmbH, Alpine Construction Poland Sp. z oo, PBG SA and HYDROBUDOWA POLAND SA to delay completion of the main steel structure of the stadium.

No new trains for Euro 2012

Poland’s two major rail operators, PKP Intercity and Przewozy Regionalne are predicted to have slim chances of buying new rolling stock before Euro 2012.

The Polish State Railways SA has chosen a general contractor in the tender for the construction of the Warsaw East station. Strabag Sp. z.o.o. will be paid approximately 31 million zlotys. Poland has enough hotels to accommodate UEFA officials and footballers for EURO 2012 but for fans there might be not enough places to sleep.
In Warsaw, Wroclaw, Gdansk and Poznan, which will host EURO 2012 matches, almost 40,000 sleeping places in 20,000 hotel rooms are available, a report by Cushman & Wakefield shows. Six firms have entered a tender to build the new Krakow Glowny central railway station. The cheapest bid, worth PLN 63,2 m (E15.8m) gross, was submitted by Katowickie Przedsiebiorstwo Budownictwa Przemyslowego BUDUD.
According to the plans drawn up for the project, the new station will be approximately 14.000m2 in size and form part of a transport hub linking together the city’s underground tramway, the bus station, the rail connection with Balice airport, and car parks.

PKP has chosen a company that will redecorate Warsaw Central Station

ROP Poland will modernize the Warsaw Central Station. Renovation will cost about 47 million zł. The work will be completed in late 2011 and 2012.
PKP SA will sign on short term a contract with the contractor's work. According to the schedule, the modernization is expected to start in June this year. The investment is financed from PKP resources.
The Central Station only needs to be repaired without substantial reconstruction. The investment will cover the facade of the main hall and its external arcades on the ground floor. The building and underground platforms will be thoroughly cleaned. Also a new information system, new ticket machines and information desks for passengers will be installed.

Three thousand volunteers will handle the tournament in Poland

 Near three thousand volunteers will be needed to handle about one million visitors during the European Football Championships in Poland.
According to Przemyslaw Aleksandrowicz, the volunteer team coordinator on behalf of PL.2012 comp., volunteers will have to meet a very important role in the football feast. “Service visitors, fans and tourists should feel save and enjoy their stay in Poland” he stressed. GDDKiA will spend PLN 1.5bm on national roads

Five companies in the tender for trams for Krakow

 Five Polish and foreign companies have been selected for the second stage of the tender for the purchase of 24 modern low-floor trams for Krakow. The project is co-financed by EU funds and will cost approximately 210 million PLN net. The company names are: Polish Solaris, Pesa Bydgoszcz, Caf (Spain), Alstom (France) and Bombardier (Canada). The vice president of the Municipal Transport Enterprise in Krakow (MPK): Zbigniew Palenica, said that "each of these companies has until the end of February to send their technical bids along with the price".

The latest results of a survey carried out by the National Labor Inspectorate (PIP), states that violations of OSHA regulations, inadequate supervision and arrears in the payment of salaries, are the main problems identified by inspectors in 2009, on the construction site of stadiums for Euro 2012 in Gdansk, Poznan, Warsaw and Wroclaw.

New toll-collection system for national roads

Not enough hotel rooms in Poland for Euro 2012?

 Poland might lack hotel rooms for accommodating UEFA Euro-2012 fans. This is caused by reduction of investments into the hotel construction. Due to recessions, Poland stopped building eight planned facilities. According to the declared schedules, Warsaw and other cities will erect new hotels with a total cost of approximate PLN 831,5 million. Additional funds could come from EU. For the time being, Poland can provide accommodation for only 69,000 guests.

 This year will mark the debut of several new projects in the hotel business. A new hotel is planned to be opened in Gdansk (the Gdansk Hilton, 150 rooms), and in Krakow (Hilton Garden Inn, 154 rooms). In H1, the fourth hotel of the Golebiewski chain will open (659 rooms), and H2 will see the debut of a four star Holiday Inn in Bydgoszcz. Most new investments will be completed in 2011-2012, that is right before the start of Euro 2012.

Euro 2012 supporters will sleep in student housing

Football fans traveling to Euro 2012 in Gdansk, will also find accommodation in the local university campus. The national coordinator for hotels and accommodation s and the local coordinator of Euro 2012 in Gdansk, have spoken with the university of Gdansk. During the talks, they discussed the possibility of renting student houses for fans traveling to Gdansk during EURO 2012.The university has over fifteen thousand beds spread over dozens of student houses. In this meeting the university authorities have declared support for the project and adopted the proposal with interest the students involved in volunteering.

Problems acquisition Wroclaw stadium

 On very short term the German company Max Bögl is to acquire the building site of the Wroclaw stadium. Negotiations with Mostostal, about leaving the building site lasting several days. The handing-over of the construction was to be signed later on Tuesday morning (2 February), but it did not happen.
The court decided that the new contractor has the unlimited right of entry and exit all the vehicles on the site, stay on it and work no matter the time of the day.
