Foreign companies keen to renovate railway tracks in Poland

 A growing number of investment projects in the railway sector, combined with a high value of planned task, attracts more and more foreign companies to Poland, which are becoming more serious competitors to domestic players, as reported by Rzeczpospolita.
The value of investment projects planned in the Polish railroad industry until 2013 can be up to around PLN 30bn (E7.4bn). While each single project can be worth up to PLN 500-900m (E124-223m).

Metro Warsaw announces another tender

Operational Center of Euro 2012 will arise in Legionowo

The governor of Mazowieckie Voivodship signed the decisions concerning the location targeting the building of the Police Training Centre in Legionowo, which will be the center of operations for Euro 2012.
The next step will be to issue a building permit. The investment, located in the Government's list of projects for Euro 2012, implies an operations center and information exchange during the Championships.
The project involves the upgrading of the building (712 square meters), consisting of two floors above ground and one underground. The second decision concerns the reconstruction of pipe.

Extension envisaged for Poznan Fast Tram

The authorities in Wielkopolskie voivodship have issued environmental approval for plans to extend the Poznan fast Tram in the direction of the railway station, PAP announced.
The authorities want to build a tram line 2 km in length that will connect the existing line with western railway station. The undertaking represents a part of the city’s preparations for the Euro 2012 football championship. It will require outlays of PLN 85m (E20.8m), PLN45m (11m) of which will be covered by EU sources.

Underground car park to appear in central Wroclaw

The local authorities in Wroclaw are preparing the groundwork for an underground parking garage below Nowy Targ square. The investment will be carried out in collaboration with a private investor, the company Mota-Engil, Gazeta Wyborcza reported.
Within the framework of the undertaking the private investor will build a three level underground parking garage with 331 parking spaces. The investment will require expenditure totaling just under PLN 40m (E9.7m) and the company will manage the facility and derive a profit from it for a period of 40 years.

European Bank to lend €450 million for upgrading road approaches to Kyiv

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) considers to issue a sovereign loan of up to €450 million to support the Kiev access roads development.

The total project cost is estimated at €1.150 billion, including an EBRD potential loan of up to €450 million to be provided in two tranches.

New Passenger Terminals of Boryspil and Kharkiv Airports to be opened within the month

Ukrainian government plans to open two new passenger terminals of Borypsil and Kharkiv International Airports within the month.

Construction of Borsypil Airport Terminal F, designed for 900 passengers per hour, was launched in January 2009 and was financed by own funds of the state owned Boryspil Airport.

MSWiA Announces Tender for ZL500m

After years of delays, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration (MSWiA) has finally announced the tender for a radio communications system for rescue services. The building of the system is one of the most important telecommunications and IT projects planned by the MSWiA for the next year. Eighty-five percent of the investment worth ZL500m will be financed from the European Regional Development Fund. The money will be spent gradually until 2012.

Euro 2012 to boost Poland’s GDP?

Poland’s organization of the Euro 2012 football championships will have a positive effect on the country’s economy and GDP for at least a decade after the tournament ends, a new report shows.
The Warsaw School of Economics, Jagiellonian University and University of Lodz published a joint paper in which they claim that Poland’s accumulated GDP growth until 2020 will amount to some 27.9 billion zloty (6.74 billion euro).


Partner needed for new stadium and sports hall auditorium construction in Radom

Radom’s local authorities intend to build a new stadium and sports hall-auditorium, both carried out as public-private partnerships.
The city has recently announced a tender to choose a private investor with whom it plans to collaborate. According to the project guidelines, the new stadium will be able to hold up to 16.000 fans. In turn, the sports hall-auditorium will be equipped with stands for up to 5.000-6.000 people.

Tenant for PGE Arena Gdansk

A tender has been announced to find a tenant for PGE Arena Gdansk. The winner will be the bidder which offers the highest annual rent, which cannot be less than PLN 2m (E0,5m) gross. The leasing contract will be concluded for a period of 10 years and the lease will cover not only the sports stadium itself but also the land and infrastructure in its immediate vicinity.

More building time needed for Warsaw stadium

A consortium comprising the firms Hydrobudowa Polska and PBG, which is building the national stadium in Warsaw, has signed an annex to its contract extending the duration of the project by 57 days. Poland and Ukraine begin construction of new Border Crossing Point

Poland and Ukraine have begun construction of the Budomezh-Grushev international automobile border crossing on the Ukrainian-Polish border in the Lviv region – the Lviv regional administration announced this in a statement.

The Lviv Region First Deputy Governor Mr. Myron Yankiv said that the project would be completed in two years. According to him, Ukraine plans to develop its road infrastructure by building a road branching to the Grushev. About UAH 20 million is intended for construction of the automobile road.

Ukraine cancels Tenders for EURO 2012 Facilities Construction

Ukraine to build New Runway at Odesa Airport

First Swissotel to be built in Kyiv

Lviv Skif Stadium to be reconstructed

Reconstruction of Lviv Skif Stadium was started in June 2010 in order to upgrade the facility to requirements set by UEFA for the EURO 2012 training facilities.

Skif Stadium is owned by the Lviv State University of Physical Training and its reconstruction is financed by the State Budget. Total budget for Skif development project planned is 79,5 million UAH.

Government allocates UAH 168 million for Lviv Stadium Construction

The Cabinet of Ministers has allocated UAH 168 million for the construction of the Lviv stadium for Euro 2012, the press service of the Lviv city council said.

On June 18, the construction company launched the works at the western part of the stadium and commenced the construction of sitting area.
The construction works are currently being held at two tiers. 400 builders work in two shifts at the construction site.

Ukraine and Russia arrange High-Speed Railways Kyiv - Moscow, Crimea - Sochi

The state rail transport administration of Ukraine - Ukrzaliznytsia and Russian Railways (Russia) reached agreement on establishing a high-speed rail passenger service between Moscow (Russia) and Kyiv, Simferopol, Sevastopol and Feodosia (all in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea) and Sochi (Russia) via Ukraine. In particular, Russian Railways President Vladimir Yakunin and Ukrzaliznytsia Director-General Mykhailo Kostiuk signed a relevant agreement on June 14 in Kyiv.

Kyiv plans to start construction 2 new Subway Lines in 2011

The Kyiv city state administration expects the construction of the Podilsko-Vyhurivska subway line and the first section of the Troieschyna-Osokorky section of the Left Bank subway line to start in 2011. Kick off upgrading Wroclaw Central Station

Monday May 31, Wroclaw commenced on the work of the reconstruction and modernization of the Main Railway Station. Trains are to be put into service in late March 2012. The total investment costs around 324 million zł.
The implementation of the entire investment (headed by the investment company Budimex SA) is complicated, because of the historic elements of the station which should be preserved and subject to renewal by the restorers. The oldest parts of the Wroclaw Central Railway Station are built in the mid-nineteenth century. At the turn of the century the station was rebuilt. Its façade is maintained in English Neo-Gothic style.

Reconstruction of the East Station in Warsaw will commence end of July

The work on the reconstruction of Warsaw’s East Station will commence in the end of July or the beginning of August. The station will be ready before the Euro 2012 championships. The rebuilding will cost 38 mln zł and the executer will be Strabag.
According to the board of PKP, most passengers in the capital during Euro 2012 will take the central train station, the eastern and Warsaw Stadium.

Gdansk launched a tender for the stadium operator

Tuesday June 2,  a two-stage tender has been declared for the future operator of PGE Arena. The winner will be known in July.
The construction is going according to plan. According to the spokesman of the Office of Investments Euro 2012 in Gdansk, Michael Kruszynski, they intend to complete the assembly of steel in July. At that time the operator will also be known. The steel structure, which is the basis of the facade and roof of the building, consists of 82 frames. Each weighs 66 ton, has a length of 100 meters and will be installed on the typical polycarbonate plates of different shades of amber.

Higher GDP growth forecast

Analysts from the Center for Social and Economic (CASE) expect the Polish GDP in the whole 2010 to by 3.5% higher than a year ago. Forecasts made three month ago assumed the growth to stay at the level of 3.2%.
CASE economists expect private consumption growth due to slightly higher wage growth and declining unemployment. It is expected to reach 3.1%.

Ukraine: new state target programme for EURO 2012 in Ukraine is adopted

The Government of Ukraine has approved a new State Target Programme for the preparation for and holding EURO 2012 in Ukraine having increased the total amount of its financing by almost UAH 16 bln (approx. EUR 1.7 bln) to reach almost UAH 142 bln (approx. EUR 15 bln).
 
The increase is provided in the Resolution issued by the Cabinet of Ministers No. 357 dated 14 April 2010 that came into force on 29 May 2010.

Are there enough beds in Poland for Euro 2012?

Poland has enough hotels to accommodate UEFA officials and footballers for EURO 2012 but for fans there might be not enough places to sleep.
In Warsaw, Wroclaw, Gdansk and Poznan, which will host EURO 2012 matches, almost 40,000 sleeping places in 20,000 hotel rooms are available, a report by Cushman & Wakefield shows. Over a half of the rooms are located in Warsaw, where the opening match of the 2012 European football championships, a semifinal and quarterfinal will be played.

Highway A4 in Małopolska is ready for EURO 2012

Six candidates vying to win Krakow railway station construction contract

Six firms have entered a tender to build the new Krakow Glowny central railway station. The cheapest bid, worth PLN 63,2 m (E15.8m) gross, was submitted by Katowickie Przedsiebiorstwo Budownictwa Przemyslowego BUDUD.
According to the plans drawn up for the project, the new station will be approximately 14.000m2 in size and form part of a transport hub linking together the city’s underground tramway, the bus station, the rail connection with Balice airport, and car parks.

PKP has chosen a company that will redecorate Warsaw Central Station

ROP Poland will modernize the Warsaw Central Station. Renovation will cost about 47 million zł. The work will be completed in late 2011 and 2012.
PKP SA will sign on short term a contract with the contractor's work. According to the schedule, the modernization is expected to start in June this year. The investment is financed from PKP resources.
The Central Station only needs to be repaired without substantial reconstruction. The investment will cover the facade of the main hall and its external arcades on the ground floor. The building and underground platforms will be thoroughly cleaned. Also a new information system, new ticket machines and information desks for passengers will be installed.

Three thousand volunteers will handle the tournament in Poland

 Near three thousand volunteers will be needed to handle about one million visitors during the European Football Championships in Poland.
According to Przemyslaw Aleksandrowicz, the volunteer team coordinator on behalf of PL.2012 comp., volunteers will have to meet a very important role in the football feast. “Service visitors, fans and tourists should feel save and enjoy their stay in Poland” he stressed. He also added that the Euro 2012 will be an excellent opportunity to promote volunteering sport, which in Poland is just developing.

GDDKiA will spend PLN 1.5bm on national roads

The General Directorate for national Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) will spend close to PLN 1.5bn (375m) on refurbishing roughly 500 km of national roads in 2010. Budimex will modernize the runway and taxiway at Warsaw’s Okecie Airport

A consortium headed by Budimex submitted the best bid in a tender to modernize the runway and taxiway at Warsaw’s Okecie Airport. The contractor is willing to carry out the undertaking for PLN 73.5m (E17.9m) and the work should be completed within 14 months of the moment the contract is signed.

Changes in the schedule of construction of the National Stadium

The completion of the main steel structure of the National Stadium in Warsaw is postponed from June to July 2010. The date for completion has been declared to UEFA - June 2011.
In April the National Sport centre received a proposal from the general contractor, consortium ALPINE BAU DEUTSCHLAND AG, ALPINE BAU GmbH, Alpine Construction Poland Sp. z oo, PBG SA and HYDROBUDOWA POLAND SA to delay completion of the main steel structure of the stadium.

No new trains for Euro 2012

Poland’s two major rail operators, PKP Intercity and Przewozy Regionalne are predicted to have slim chances of buying new rolling stock before Euro 2012.
Upgrades of line infrastructure, and thus the shortening of journey times between Poland’s major cities, are also to be discounted, writes Puls Biznesu.
Przewozy Regionalne, Poland’s cross-country regional operator had planned to order 70 new electric train sets.

Strabag Sp. Z o.o. will rebuild the Warsaw East Station

The Polish State Railways SA has chosen a general contractor in the tender for the construction of the Warsaw East station. Strabag Sp. z.o.o. will be paid approximately 31 million zlotys. The price obtained in the tender is 14 million zlotys lower than planned for this investment. Construction work will begin in the third quarter of 2010.

Imtech scoort order voor EK voetbal 2012

Imtech heeft wederom een order verworven voor de technologie in een stadion voor het EK Voetbal 2012 in Polen. Na eerdere orders voor een groot deel van de techniek in het Poolse Nationale Stadion in Warschau en de Poolse PGE Baltic Arena in Gdansk, is nu ook opdracht ontvangen voor alle technische oplossingen in het nieuw te bouwen stadion in Wroclaw. It is an award for this country’s dynamic economic development in recent years said the EU Budget Commissioner Janusz Lewandowski. Technology partner for the Gdansk football stadium selected

Unemployed people will be trained for several tasks at the Euro 2012

A large amount of EU funding is released for the training of unemployed people to work in companies that will be handling the European Championship in football.
The Lower Silesian Voivodship Labour Office (DWUP) in Walbrzych has already established the first contests, in which entrepreneurs receive funding to prepare unemployed people for several tasks at Euro 2012. The office will share the 9 million between the implementers to prepare the unemployed for professional work, including trip pilots, translators, hostesses and security staff.

Cheapest bid construction part A1 motor way

A consortium including companies from the PBG group submitted the cheapest bid in a tender to build the Czerniewice-Brzezie stretch of the A1 motorway. The consortium is offering to build the 34.5 km stretch for PLN 934m gross. The investment will take 20 months to complete from the moment a contract is signed with the contractor.

Government appoints new directors of Kyiv and Lviv Stadiums

Modernization of the railway line in Malopolska for 64 million zł

The Polish Railways will receive more than 41 million zł of subsidies from EU funds for modernization of the railway line No 96 Tarnow – Leluchów on the section Tarnow - Guardian in Małopolska. Tender to renovate elevated road in Chorzow

Five companies in the tender for trams for Krakow

Due to recessions, Poland stopped building eight planned facilities. According to the declared schedules, Warsaw and other cities will erect new hotels with a total cost of approximate PLN 831,5 million. Additional funds could come from EU. For the time being, Poland can provide accommodation for only 69,000 guests.

Mazowieckie Railways signed a contract with Newag, a company from Nowy Sacz, for the modernization of 23 trains by 2011. The contract value is approximately 85.9 million zł.

All four polish cities experience big trouble in the preparations for the European championships in 2012. Many of the investments planned for the Euro 2012 have already accumulated substantial delays. In Gdansk, only half of the projects is proceeding according to schedule, problems occur mainly in the construction of roads, which has no direct connection with the championships. By contrast, in Poznan, the largest delay is the modernization of the airport.

The Public Procurement Office had no objection to the tendering procedure for the construction of the A4 motorway running from Rzeszow Center to Rzeszow East. This means that before the end of February the agreement will be signed. The contractor of the 7 km of the A4 motorway will be the Polish-Spanish consortium of companies lead by market leader Mostostal Warszawa. The price offered by the consortium amounts over 439 mln zł. The term of the investment is 18 months.

High requirements for the training- and accommodation centers Euro 2012

The UEFA has high requirements for candidates for the training- and accommodation centers for the players of Euro 2012. The hotel, which will house the football team, should have a minimum of four stars. Football players that want to train, must be provided with three pitches (including a full size stadium), two cloakrooms, one of the 100 m2 for the players and the other with a surface 24 m2 for the coaches, a conference room and a medical room. All this should be located no more than an hour away travelling by bus from the airport.

Euro 2012: Contract Signed for Wroclaw Stadium

The municipal authorities in Wroclaw have signed a contract with the Max Boegl company, which is to become the new contractor to complete the football stadium for Euro 2012. It is to finish the stadium by the end of June 2011. The Mayor of Wroclaw, Rafal Dutkiewicz, said during yesterday's press conference that the official negotiations lasted one day and were conducted with Max Boegl and Budimex. The Max Boegl company has been responsible for the construction of six stadiums on its own, and took part in a dozen or so projects together with other companies.

Solaris Signs Major Contract

On Monday, Poznan municipal transport services signed a major deal with Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. The ZL342m contract concerns the supply of 40 new trams, as well as providing various complementary services. "We've reached the final agreement of terms on the commissioning of the D terminal at Boryspil airport. Altcom to build Donetsk Airport Terminal

Airports Receive Land for New Investments

Under the Act on the management of Treasury-controlled real estate, the Defence Ministry (MON) will donate 3,342 ha of land to local governments, which will then transfer them to private companies controlling Polish airports. Once they have obtained the land, they will be able to commence investments in the construction and expansion of airports. Eighteen ha of land has already been received by local authorities of Wielkopolskie region. It will be used for expansion of Lawica airport to be used for organisation of the Euro 2012 Championships. A total of 242 ha will be received by Gdynia Kosakowo airport, also to be used during the championships.

Poland Builds $140m Airport for Football Fans

Financing programme for road rehabilitation and transport system upgrades

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is providing a financing programme worth €38 million to the major western Ukrainian city of Lviv to help fund the modernisation of its road and transportation systems.

The largest municipal financing package provided by the Bank in western Ukraine to date will include a €12 million loan to Lviv ElectroTrans, the municipal transport company. It will also comprise a €26 million loan to Lviv Avtodor, the road construction, maintenance and traffic management company being created by the city of Lviv.

Contracts for 810km of Roads Signed Since November 2007

According to the Infrastructure Ministry, from November 2007 until the beginning of June 2009, contracts for construction of 408 km of motorways and 404 km of other types of state roads were signed. Government considers to finance a new passenger terminal of Donetsk Airport

The Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, Mr. Ivan Vasiunyk, informed that a new passenger terminal of Donetsk International Airport could be possibly built at the expenses of the State budget in case of any of private investor would not be found in the nearest future. According to him, there were already 3 tenders held to find an investor, but none of them had succeeded.

Ukraine will spend 3 billion UAH on medical support of the EURO 2012

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a medical concept of the EURO 2012. This document defines key actions to be taken in order to provide a required level of medical services during the EURO 2012, including medical infrastructure development in host cites, as well as general strengthening of the State sanitary-and-epidemiologic control.

Kharkiv hotels expand their facilities

Tender for Lviv Airport Investor to be announced on June 8

Lviv Governor, Mr. Mykola Kmit, informed that UEFA requires a special working group to be established for running Lviv Airport development project exclusively. The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine plans to establish this working group within Lviv Airport management. This working group will include up to 30 members of staff, and its Head will report to the Director of the Airport.

Yuschenko is positive on Lviv Stadium construction rates

Kharkiv Metalist stadium will be open in September 2009

In May 2009, Northern Stand roofing works were already completed at the Metallist Sports Complex, and currently the Southern Stand is being roofed. As for the Eastern and Western Stands, their roofs have already been equipped with a state-of-the-art lighting system that fully meets the UEFA requirements.

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry says EURO 2012 guests will easily cross Ukrainian border

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has said that foreigners who will travel to Ukraine for the EURO 2012 will not have any problems with crossing the Ukrainian border.

He pointed that Ukraine already has the visa-free regime with European Union countries. On top of that, he added that the Ministry will introduce special "F - Football" visas to be issued for people who have football tickets for the EURO 2012 matches and individuals directly involved in the EURO 2012 preparations.

Eurobonds to Help Prepare EURO 2012

Gdansk, Poznan and Wroclaw are considering a joint issue of Eurobonds worth up to EUR1bn. Three of the four cities hosting EURO 2012 matches would issue the bonds together. Lviv Stadium foundation construction to be finished in one month

Dnipropetrovsk airport to be privatized in June 2009

UEFA President visits Kiev

UEFA President Michel Platini visited Kiev with an official working visit on April 14-15, 2009.

In the morning of April 15, Mr. Platini visited NSK Olympiyskiy reconstruction site. Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko, Football Federation of Ukraine President Grigoriy Surkis, Vice Premier Ivan Vasyunik, Youth and Sports Minister Yuriy Pavlenko familiarized Platini with the pace of construction work at the Olympiysky.

Oekraïne: renovatie ringweg om Kiev

Het nationale orgaan voor de wegen van Oekraïne (Ukravtodor) wil in 2009 de weg tussen Brovary en Boryspil gaan renoveren. Het budget hiervoor is geraamd op 136 miljoen hryvnia (12,6 miljoen euro). De weg maakt onderdeel uit van de grote ringweg om de hoofdstad Kiev.
